Sukkot Flex Final 07-08-2017

 Note:   Special Torah Reading:

The word sukkot (סכת) means shelters, stables or huts. The Torah commands the Israel people to annually build sukkot and live in them as a reminder of the forty years they lived in huts and booths, following G-d in the wilderness: “You shall live in sukkot for seven days; all the native-born in Israel shall live in sukkot” (Leviticus 23:42).

The YHWH will spread a sukkah of glory over Jerusalem:

Then the LORD will create over the whole area of Mount Zion and over her assemblies a cloud by day, even smoke, and the brightness of a flaming fire by night; for over all the glory will be a canopy. There will be a sukkah to give shade from the heat by day, and refuge and protection from the storm and the rain. – Isaiah 4:5–6

Torah Portion: Leviticus 22:26 – 23:44 & Numbers 29:12 – 29:16

 Prophets and New Testament:   Zechariah 14: 1- 21; I Kings 8 : 2- 21 ; John 7 : 1- 10

Torah Commands three things in the festival of sukkot:

  • To Gather the ”four species”- Leviticus 23:40
  • To Rejoice before the YHWH – Deuteronomy 16: 13-14; Leviticus 23:40
  • To Live in a Sukkah – Leviticus 23 : 42
